==Changing dates in subcategories == I would like to change the subcategory names to take out which month the page was marked as needing a cleanup. For instead of having 12 subcategories each year: *All articles needing cleanup from January 2018 *... *All articles needing cleanup from December 2018 *All articles needing cleanup from January 2019 *All articles needing cleanup from February 2019 *... *All articles needing cleanup from December 2019 We have just one larger subcategory per year: *All articles needing cleanup from 2018 *All articles needing cleanup from 2019 This looks pretty simple. An alternative is to have subcategories for Spring / Summer / Autumn/Fall / Winter per year - but that might not be possible for me to figure out. Because there aren't many pages for 2015-2018 I have merged those categories already. But going forward, do we just want a category per year? notjusttired (talk) 14:56, July 22, 2019 (EDT) User:Kmdenmark User:JaimeS User:Pyrrhus User:Canele User:Sisyphus User:JenN? :This is a duplicate discussion to the existing one at Template talk:Cleanup. Please continue the discussion there. I have recently ordered all cleanup pages by date on :Category:All articles needing cleanup so there is now no need for any subcategories based on date. :Pyrrhus (talk) 17:04, July 22, 2019 (EDT) ==Subcats?== I'm wondering if those more Category- and Template-savvy than I might advise: is it possible to create templates that would populate subcategories for "All articles needing cleanup"? I have in mind trying to identify all the pages that don't cite any sources at all, as well as the pages that have no content whatsoever, as those might be priorities for cleanup. I could of course just tag with cleanup and name that as the problem, but if they could be cats, then someone could look at the list and work through those first, as opposed to coming across them scattershot. Thanks for any help you can offer! Canele (talk) 00:42, 16 April 2019 (EDT) : I’m not sure if this helps, but the MEpedia:Pages in need page has a link for all the pages that have been tagged with the “Citation needed” template tag. It also has a link for all the “suspiciously short pages”, which includes pages with no content. If I find a link for all pages missing a reference list, I’ll add that to MEpedia:Pages in need as well. :Pyrrhus (talk) 12:42, 16 April 2019 (EDT) ::Only just saw this. I was thinking on similar lines, but that we could pick which cleanup reason we wanted from a list with the visual editor. I started the discussion on Template_talk:Cleanup. It would involve choosing the a Cleanup/rewrite template rather than just general Cleanup. It could then be linked to here. I am also going to try adding Citations needed as a subcategory / subcategories here. They can easily be marked with a date, which will create an extra subcategory. I just need to make sure the date is put in automatically for those like me who add it using code notjusttired (talk) 15:01, July 22, 2019 (EDT) :::We definitely do not want new subcategories for the “Citation needed” template. This would just create the same problem that we are currently trying to solve with the “Cleanup” template. :::Pyrrhus (talk) 17:07, July 22, 2019 (EDT) ==Sort order of this page == It's currently ordered by date of last edit. What about ordering by date added to cleanup category? It involves sorting by categoryadd. Some pages have been marked for cleanup since 2015 notjusttired (talk) 11:08, August 11, 2019 (EDT) :Actually, it is currently ordered by the date it was added to the cleanup category. (Or sometimes, the following day.) The confusion is due to the fact that every time Template:Cleanup is changed, the page can be removed and then re-added to the category, so the date would actually reflect the date that Template:Cleanup was modified. (Or sometimes, the following day.) The details are complicated. We saw the same thing when Template:Citation_needed was accidentally deleted and then restored. Many of the pages were removed from the relevant category, and then added back into the category when template:Citation_needed was restored. (Some of the pages were spared because those weren't accessed by anyone in the period while template:Citation_needed was deleted.). The details are complicated, but I hope this helps. :Pyrrhus (talk) 15:56, August 11, 2019 (EDT)
