Dead links are external links (or links included in reference footnotes) to external websites that have moved, changed or removed content since the link was added to MEpedia. This phenomenon is known as link rot.

  1. A dead link should not automatically be deleted, as the material can often be retrieved using resources such as the Internet Archive.
  2. If you can find a working link to the same material, please update the link.
  3. If you can not find a working link to the same material, you can replace the external link with a web citation using the original access date.
  4. If you do not have time to find a working link, you can add the template tag “Dead link” immediately after the link, which signals that more work is needed to make the link functional again.
