SAMe is S-Adenosyl-Methionine. SAMe is an amino acid derivative normally synthesized in the body that may become depleted with sickness or age. SAMe helps maintain stable mood and joint function. In addition, SAMe has also shown benefits for the liver and brain. Since CFS/ME is a neuroimmune disease, SAMe may assist sufferers in overcoming some of the distressing brain function symptoms as well as providing a mood lifter. SAMe aids in the synthesis of norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin (neurotransmitters). SAMe also facilitates healthy methylation.
