===Extracellular Vesicles=== A 2018 study from [[Spain]] reported that [[extracellular vesicle]]s (EVs) were significantly smaller as measured by protein cargo, size distribution and concentration, and the amount of EV-enriched fraction was significantly higher in the blood serum of CFS/ME patients versus healthy controls. Extracellular vesicles are secreted from both healthy cells and cells undergoing apoptosis (i.e., cell death) and play a role in intercellular communication.<ref name="Castro-Marrero, 2018" /> Obstacle for use: The study population consisted of 10 Spanish CFS/ME patients and 5 matched healthy controls. This study would need to be reproduced in larger populations to verify statistic significance.
