Heart rate monitor

From MEpedia, a crowd-sourced encyclopedia of ME and CFS science and history

Devices that can detect and track your heart rate are called heart rate monitors.[1] They can be helpful to give insight into activity and pacing for people with ME/CFS[2] to stay within their energy limits. Devices that monitor heart rate may also track heart rate variability.

Glossary: Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) - A device that measures your heart rate (pulse rate). Heart rate monitors may come as a chest strap, wrist strap, smartwatch, or even as a mobile phone app. Heart rate monitors are often used by ME/CFS patients to pace their exertion, in order to avoid post-exertional malaise (PEM).
